The Big Ten is not only a great sports conference but its members are strong academic and research institutions. This page celebrate the strength and diversity of the 11 Big Ten Universities.

The 2008 College Ratings are out from US News and Newsweek and there is a Chinese based list of the Top 500 Universities in the World.

Some Big Ten Highlights..

From Newsweek..Michigan was listed as one of the new 25 Ivies as in IVY league like schools. Funny, many alums would have considered this about 150 years overdue. Wisconsin rated "Hottest Big State School"

USNews has Northwestern, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin and Penn State in the Top 50. (Note Notre Dame scores higher than most Big Ten schools almost exclusively due to high rate of alumni donations, typical of private schools vs public schools. The Big Ten, especially Michigan scores very well in the Undergraduate Business ratings.

The Chinese survey has Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Northwestern, Minnesota, Penn State, Purdue, Ohio State,Michigan State, Indiana, Iowa all in the Top 100 in the World

The Big Ten slaughters the SEC.

Of the 11 members of the Big Ten Conference--University of Illinois, University of Minnesota, Northwestern University, Purdue University, University of Wisconsin, Indiana University, University of Iowa, Ohio State University, University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Pennsylvania State University--all 11 make our top 75. Of the 12 members of the Southeastern Conference--we'll not list them all--only Vanderbilt University and the University of Florida even crack it.
